Choosing a Background Style
Since Custom Expression products are for personal use instead of business, you can let your personal style show. And do remember that people often have stacks of business cards in their wallets or their desks—make yours stand out. When selecting your background design, remember that you’ll be handing this to lots of different people—close friends, teachers, the school nurse, the bus driver, a scout leader---pick a design that will reflect your style and still be appropriate for many uses.

How to Choose a Text Color
Consider the background colors when selecting a font color. You’ll have a chance to preview your work---do the words stand out clearly against the background? Is everything completely readable? We pre-select the best font for your background, but color can also add or impede clarity. Remember that a color can look quite different on different monitors and in print. Try to pick a color that you’ll like even if it is slightly different than the way it appears on your screen.

Deciding What to Say
We give you lots of different text options to input the information you want. Think for a minute or two about who might be receiving the item and what they need to know. Does your child have a serious allergy—to bee stings, for example? You can use one line to say so. Do you and your child’s dad have different home phone numbers? Maybe you want to add his number in case of an emergency.

How Your design Will Look on Other Products
If you chose several different products with the same theme, the overall design layout may vary. A layout that looks good on a card may need to be adapted for a notepad.

Proof twice, print once
Carpenters have a rule that says "measure twice, cut once." While we wouldn't go that far, it is important to proof your work carefully. There's nothing worse than discovering too late that you misspelled your name or transposed numerals in your phone number.
